Towny turns survival into towns and nations. Mayors claim town land, set taxes, create plots for homes and shops, and sometimes form nations for diplomacy or war.

Some servers are peaceful city life; others focus on nation wars. Plot types and mayor permissions decide how “city-like” it feels. A live map link is a good sign.

Read upkeep costs and how expensive it is to start a town. Towns that cannot pay upkeep can fall and lose their claims.

Towny FAQ

How do I found a town?

Typically /t new <name> after gathering a fee. Then claim with /t claim and invite residents. Exact prices are server-specific.

What is a nation?

A group of towns under a king/leader, often for war or shared chat. Not every Towny server enables nation war.

Can strangers build in my town?

Only if you set plot perms wrong. Use mayor tools to set resident/outsider build switch carefully.

Towny vs land claim plugins?

Towny is towns-and-plots social structure. GriefPrevention-style claims are simpler per-player protection without mayors.
