About Java Minecraft Servers

Java Edition is the Minecraft client for Windows, Mac, and Linux (the one from minecraft.net / the Launcher). Most plugin servers and almost all modpacks use Java. This filter hides Bedrock-only listings so you copy the right address.

Java usually connects on port 25565. If the listing shows another port, include it (for example play.example.com:25566). Copy the address exactly as shown.

If your friends play on console or mobile, look for Crossplay instead. A normal Java server will not accept Bedrock players without a special bridge.

Not directly. You need a Crossplay/Geyser network or a Java account on PC.

The Minecraft client version the server expects (e.g. 1.20.4). ViaVersion on some servers allows newer clients—never older than the listing claims without trying.

Online-mode needs a paid Microsoft/Java account. Cracked servers allow unofficial launchers—higher risk, different culture.

Only if the listing is modded. Normal public Survival/minigame IPs are vanilla client + optional resource pack.
